Every year since my girls were little I have been asked to judge at the county fair. It is something that I enjoy doing and something I take pride in doing. I am thankful that Michelle from our county extension office has enough trust in my judgment to ask me back every year. Last year there wasn’t a fair so I was super bummed but you can read about my past experiences here and here. So keep reading to learn more about my experience judging at the Wayne County Fair.
In the years past, I have judged alongside my friend Tracy and this year was no different. But was different was in the past we judged the recycle category but this year we were in the scrapbooking category. Y’all I am in awe of the talent of people’s creativity. Each year I always have I why didn’t I think of that moment and this year was no different. Although I am not a scrapbooker I can see the value and the amount of time and patience it takes to put things together. Although this fair experience was a little different judging I thought I would still share the play by play with you.
My. time judging actually doesn’t start until the day of the fair, but Michelle who I mentioned before contacted me at least a month before to see if I was available and I would want to judge again this year. Of course, my answer was yes because it is so much fun and I get to catch up with my friend Tracy. Michelle follows up the week of the fair with a message giving us the rundown of everything. What time to be there and what to expect you know all the do’s and don’t’s as judges. Then the day of the fair comes around.
Normally they feed the directors ( those in charge of the exhibits being judged) and the judges so lunch of pizza is served around 11:30 am with judging starting around noon. However this year, the pizza was a little late so we ate after we were through with judging. When I got there I checked in and found out that I would be judging the scrapbooking entries and not the 3R’s this year. ( The 3 R’s had very few entries whereas the scrapbooking had over 90. Wow right!) I was surprised but I didn’t mind I love doing stuff like this and it is so much fun plus I thought maybe I could learn a thing or two.
Honestly folks, I was inspired by what I saw and I think I might add some digital scrapbooking to The Writer and The Farmer in the months to come because when you think about it what is a blog- it a written scrapbook about all your experiences.
We wrapped up judging at 1;30 just in time for me to go by and see the animals at the livestock exhibit before I made my way to the car. Have I told you how much I really want a cow? But if I can’t have a cow I would settle for a baby goat instead?
So tell me have you ever judged at your county fair? If so tell me what you experience was like and what did you judge?
