It’s time for another round-up. You know where I give you just a brief snippet of posts about farming that were written on my other blog Adventures of Frugal Mom. As I mentioned before on here I am very close to Emily from Odom Farming Company so wrote quite a few guests for me in the past as well as one on here. So today the round-up is all about posts that she wrote on the site. If you missed the other round-up, can find it here.
As I mentioned before I met Emily through my daughters working on the farm. And I started working for her when she needed a CSA assistant. Wondering what CSA means and what it all about- well Emily actually wrote about it giving all the details. Although she doesn’t do CSA anymore I will say that there are some things I miss about it- mainly the company. 🙂
Her farm also hosts (well until Covid) an annual We Dig Ag Day in conjunction with Farm Bureau. This is a day that they open up their farm to all second graders in our county to come out and learn about life on the farm. As I mentioned before in the video announcing The Writer and The Farmer, most kids don’t know where their food comes from beside the grocery store. You can read more about Ag Day here.
Sunflowers are a huge part of the farm. And Emily hit the jackpot when she decided to plant as she called Fields of Happy on the farm. The sunflowers are cut into a maze, people come from miles around to have their photos taken in them ( I am guilty of that). It is just another way that farmers have to think outside of the box.
She also wrote a guest post about the controversial hog farm lawsuits. I think these lawsuits are where my passion for helping farmers got ignited. I just couldn’t understand why people would want to sue people when they moved in after the farm was created. I mean the farm was there first. Ever notice how high the price of pork is at the grocery store now? Guess where that came from? The results of these lawsuits. And it didn’t hurt the big corporations they hurt the farmers.
And the last post I am going to share that Emily wrote is all about Fall Fun on the Farm ( which by the way is happening tomorrow). They have added a few things since that post but it is still so much fun to spend a day on the farm. Remember the best memories are made on the farm.
Hope you like this round-up ( guest post) edition look for another round-up coming to you soon.
