Hey y’all I know I skipped a few months but I had to collect my thoughts before I wrote the promised post about our journey to a truck. It has really gotten me thinking about how farmers tend to have more than one truck and made me thankful for them even more. Don’t quite understand- well bear with me for a few minutes and you will soon learn.
Let’s begin with our why behind the truck. As I mentioned before I drive a Chevy Malibu but before that I had a GMC Acadia. When we went to buy the Malibu I thought for sure my husband was going to trade the Acadia in for it. But imagine my surprise when he decided to keep it for him.
We had the Acadia for a while and just recently paid it off. But things started to go on it- and it was time to either spend a lot of money on it or trade it before it completely died. So that set us on our search for a truck.
We started looking right after we came back from the mountains for a truck that was within our price range. And we always seemed to come up short.
Y’all have you checked the prices of trucks lately. We ended up upping our budget and still had a hard time finding one.
This is where I have mad respect for farmers. Have you noticed that almost all farmers have at least one truck if not more for their farm. Think about all the money that they have tied up in trucks, equipment, and other items needed for farming. Y’all after searching for our truck and realizing how high the price of one is I can just imagine how much financial pressure small farmers must be under to buy all the things they need for their farms. ( Side note: I then thought to myself no wonder farmers sometimes have to take an outside job to make ends meet)
With that said, it has made me appreciate the struggles that farmers go through just to have all that they need to support their families and keep their farms running smoothly.
Now back to the truck journey. So as I mentioned we looked for several months trying to find the right truck in the right price range. We had actually gone to “our dealership” LOL! (I call it our dealership because out of all the cars we have had since we have been married we have bought 95% of them from this one particular dealer) a few weeks before we bought the truck just to look at other trucks. We saw the truck on the lot and liked it but the price wasn’t what we wanted to spend. So we passed and besides we didn’t need it right then anyway.
Fast forward to a month later, and hubby was getting really serious about buying a truck. He was ready to pull the trigger. And I did what most everybody does nowadays and that is let my fingers do the walking and googled trucks for sale in my area. It was never a question that we would get a Ford F-150. This was and still our favorite brand of truck. But the only question was what year would get and how many miles would be on it.
And there one was other criteria that my hubby had – and that was that it had to have extend cab so that the dogs and Gracie ( our youngest) could ride in it with us. We searched all over the internet and in neighboring towns trying to find the perfect truck for our family.
Over several discouraging days of either the trucks had been sold or there was something wrong with the trucks we were looking at, I searched Deacon Jones ( our dealership) to see if by any chance that they would a have truck in our price range. ( I know what you are thinking wouldn’t that been your first stop and yes it was our first but everything was still over our price range. Until that night, we saw one that was in our price range but it was a different location than the dealership we normally go through.
So on a whim, we decided to call our dealership to see if they could get the truck transferred over to their location ( closer to us) so that we could see the truck. Derick said sure but it probably would not be until Monday before it could be transferred. ( that is if it wasn’t sold over the weekend.)
Feeling a little discouraged, we decided that the next day which was a Saturday we would drive over to the dealership to see what was on the lot and hoped that the truck had been transferred. That’s when we started looking at the truck we saw a month before that. One test drive and Raul, the hubby was in love.
He almost walked away from the lot without it. But I told him it was time for him to get something for himself because he always puts others before himself. And this time he actually listened and got the truck.
But y’all even though the truck was a 2014 and had 100,000 miles on it ( it was still in good shape) we still paid more for it than we did my car. ( Which by the way is a 2016 – we got it in 2019 and only had 23,000 miles on it.)
So that journey to a truck opened my eyes to how the farmers must feel every time they have to go out and purchase a new to them vehicle for use on the farm. And y’all I sympathize with them because HELLO the price tag on some trucks are almost the price of small home.
So I want to leave you with this thought, next time you see a farmer getting out of a truck. Thank him for all that he sacrificing to make sure that we have enough food in our bellies and enough clothes on our backs by producing what we need to ensure that we will live a life of plenty and to be able to live high on the hog ( Farm pun I know but I just had to do it).
Until Next Time
